warming up

I can't even begin to express how happy it makes me to look at the weather forecast for the next five days and not see snow anywhere in the near future. The effect that this has on my overall mood is simply outstanding. I must be affected by the whole seasonal depression thing, slightly at least. So this is a welcome change.

As the weather warms up, so does my attitude toward a lot of things. I am warming up to the idea of new things (which has been only overwhelming for the last few weeks), warming up more to certain people who God seems to have placed in my life for reasons I can't imagine, warming up to the idea that there is a larger plan in place here, and I am simply along for the ride.

I love watching the world come back to life in the spring, as the green comes back into the grass and the leaves come out and flowers speck the ground with all my favorite colors and people actually go outside after their 6-month hibernation. It all rings of life. Sometimes I feel like I start cruising on auto pilot in my life, and it's good to feel the life come back into me every once in a while. I feel it like the slowly rising temperature.

I almost broke down in tears today when I walked outside and had to scrape my windows - I reached my breaking point...

There are people that are harder to love. I am one of those people. It makes me really happy when it gets warmer outside. I too like it when spring comes. But really this whole seasonal depression thing is all in your head. You should really let go and let God handle that issue of sin in your life. He does have a larger plan for you.

seasonal depression is not "all in your head". It's a diagnosable medical condition, brought on by the lack of the sunlight that produces serentonin your brain. If you don't believe me, check the stats on the number of transfer students to the University of Alaska that are required to undergo psychological counseling to prevent suicides because of the lack of sunlight causing depression.

Maybe letting her talking about issues in her life on a blog IS God's plan for handling it. Ever think of that?

Keep up the great work, Charissa. Love you bunches. Oh...and I'm man enough to put my name on this!

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love the fullness of winter for the mere fact that it causes me to appreciate spring all the more. I've lived in a climate that really had no winter weather (by midwest standards) and though the winter blahs never set it, I also never felt that exuberant 'burst' of spring. Your post is a lovely reminder of renewal. Thanks

'spring is my favorite time of year' from previous anonymous was from ME and I don't know why it came up anonymous because I put my username in the field. Don't want to be confused with the other, thank you. Debbie

Apparently you have your very own critic in your friend anonymous. I think you should ignore what anonymous has to say. Especially since anonymous's punctuation is lacking.

Geez people...let up about the spelling. It's not the end of the world if you don't have a firm grip on the English language and it doesn't make your opinion less valuable. This is the internet - grammar means nothing as long as your point is made.

You may not like what anon says, but don't freak out if someone has a different opinion than you. At least it's interesting to read.

Good point Tyler. I think I get caught up in the grammar. However, I do think that people that have a lot of errors in their postings run the risk of appearing unintelligent. There are rules to writing, whether people like it or not. It doesn't make anyone person's opinion more or less valuable though.

There are people that are harder to love. I am one of those people. Thank you Tyler. I'm glad someone hear can consider this prayarfully and listin to reason. I'm just trying to say that I love spring and feel like all my energy is sucked out durring the winter. I think it has something to do with it being dark all the time. But I definetly think "seasonl depression" is just an excuse to take pills to feel better. If you pray you should be able to overcome anything deficult.

Anonymous - You were doing fine until the "excuse to take pills" comment - you shoulda quit while you were ahead!

I can tell your heart is in the right place, but at the same time, my humble opinion leans towards you needing to brush up on your knowledge of emotional disorders. Statements like you made simply remind us that while it's great to speak about things we are educated on, we should be cognizant that an ignorant opinion can come off, well, sounding ignorant and maybe even hurtful. Which, I'm sure wasn't your goal.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is very real and potentially deadly (check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder), as are many other emotional disorders, and I would bet that most people taking medication would rather not have to.

It isn't as simple as only asking God to take care of these types of things - often times medicine and/or therapy are also needed in conjunction with good old fashioned prayer.

As an aside - I'm currently in Christian counseling, I take meds daily and I pray to The Lord a lot, as treatment for chemical imbalances and life issues I'm working through, so I know a little about the topic in general.

PS - Nice post, Charissa - and I feel the same about spring as you do. What I also love is how the earth wakes up and you can smell it and grass and all the flora. Oh yeah and the songbirds are way kool during this time of year with all their nesting and foraging.

Peace, Rod

Sorry guys. The Anonymous comments on this particular post belong to me. I used to have anoymous posters on my blog and I found the only way to get rid of them was to post anonymously so they would have to sign their name to distinguish or suffer looking like even more of a jerk. Charissa already knows. But its good to see you rise to the challenge.

I am very amused when I read this blog. You all are friends and know each other. This is even better then I thought. Many of the comments are not from me, Mahumbegwe Tuluagfiye. I will try to open an account. It is not possible because I am using a public computer. I would agree with you about this lovely weather. I enjoy seeing the sun shine, feeling a nice breeze. I don't prefer snow. In my country it is beautiful all the time. My little sister and I call it God's country because the land is lovely, however the people not happy most of the time. I see this in America as well. Your unhappiness is from with in as well. So if one is discontent from poverty or discontent from emotions, weather, friendships, God keeps us at a place we can see we are in need of him, and we can still see his beauty in his land. I don't know about pills but I did laugh when I read the joke you played. You all are very good friends. This is nice. Enjoy the weather ob.ser.vation and I am happy you are happy too.
